Today’s menu: Wildebeest!

September 23, 2012

A large group of hungry lions  in Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania have killed a wildebeest.

Please click on photo for a much better view 🙂

Although the females do the hunting for the pride, the males eat first. And first of all the leading-male!

Learn more here about hunting lions here.

What does a hungry female lion do while the male lions satisfy their hunger?

They lie down in the shade and take a nap 🙂

To be continued……..

Amazing and wonderful pictures. I can only image how spectacular that trip must have been

It was a great experience! And my first but NOT my last travel to Africa 🙂

I like the way they just take over the road, unconcerned by the vehicles… they know who’s the king of beasts!

    • September 24, 2012 5:26 pm

They know that they are the kings here. And cars and people are just parts of the landscape!

I’m amazed at how comfortable they are with all those spectators so close….surely they can smell fresh meat. Otherwise just as well they got the wildebeest, meant the humans were safe.

I think it was very interesting, why the predators in the National Parks of Tanzania completely ignored us people in the cars. They could as simple as nothing have jumped up and grabbed one of us! But it must be because there are many cars with people every day, and they have learned that they is not a threat, while there is enough prey for them among the animals.
We were told that we NEVER should go out of the car. There were cases where it had gone wrong for someone, who had left the car. And they had not been able to report on it themselves afterwards …………….. 😦

Spectacular pictures ! And what a feast ! It is amazing that you and others were right in the middle of this event and that the lions went on their own way. Fantastic pictures indeed.

I I had not even dared to hope, to see lions hunt so close before we were on the safari. And then we saw it even several times! If I have to find a highlight of this trip, then it must be these experiences 🙂

“To be Continued …” .- vi får da virkelig håpe det! Dette så både farlig og spennende ut. Løver bak bilen man skal kjøre i er ikke hverdagskost. Imponerende!

LoL… those are some relaxed lions 🙂

    • September 27, 2012 6:45 pm

They were hungry, our guide, Sadi, told us. But at the same time they were under true male power!

    Awesome, Truels, – awesome!
