Flowers in my garden / Creative exposure (1)

May 23, 2010

Scott Thomas‘ latest assignment is “Creative exposure”.

For me this a challenge to enter some – for me – new tracks in the photo-jungle.

The first track is (in my garden 🙂 ) to use the zoom in my DMZ-FZ8 combined with lowest aperture-value to play with the background of the picture. I have not a tripod (and I never use the zoom), so many creative substitutes from the garden like chairs, tools, piles and more had to be used as “tripods”!…

Here is a view up in my cherry tree (it looks like we will get many cherries again this year!) – the blue sky and the many flowers behind gives a nice, light background to the flowers in focus.

The second photo I have selected is (like the first one) taken with full zoom (432 mm), F 3.3, ISO 100, 1/1000 and a exp. comp. -0,66. It shows a closer look at the lovely flowers, but also a nice coloured dark green deep background (a privet hedge under the tree) – in contrast to the light colours above in the tree….

In the third one the same setting are used – except that exp. comp. now is -1.33 and WB is set to cloudy, which gives a different lighter background, and the colours are much warmer now….

    This is gorgeous, Truels!

I like the first photo best, because it looks so bright and cheerful, especially with the small blue patch there in the background. It looks as though the blossoms are pointing up towards the sun, drinking in the light and warmth of the sun, and promising a rich harvest. I didn’t know these were cherry blossoms – how lucky you are to have such a tree in your garden. 🙂

The other two photos exude a greater sense of peace and serenity, because there is less colour in the background to distract the viewer. The middle photo almost feels a little sad or melancholy, but I’m not sure why? The last photo feels lighter and warmer, probably because there is more light?

It’s nice to have fun like this with the camera settings, isn’t it? 🙂

Reggie, I am very happy reading your analysis of my pictures, now I have learned even more from this assignment! And you are right: I is so funny to play with all these settings. Let’s play and explore 🙂 !

I just love photo #1! How beautiful! I found Scott’s assignment difficult as well! It forced me to learn more about my camera and try some things I hadn’t tried before.

Yes, I really had problems playing with the settings, I could not stop again! So I decided to make one more contribution this time – or maybe two more…..

Thanks for participation, Truels! Don’t forget to post the link on the Assignment post on my blog so others can come here and see you did an excellent job of using your camera’s zoom and aperture settings.

Thanks for your comment, Scott! I have not forgotten to post the link on your blog – but I would do it when I had made one – or maybe two 🙂 – more contributions!!!

    Wow! What stunners! 🙂
I would frame that second shot and hang it on a wall if I were you. 🙂

What lovely bokeh! The first one is beautiful in a traditional way but the second and third have such unusual framing – love the creativity!
