Jerash
Jerash – overview, seen from the north.

Jerash was already inhabited 4-5000 years ago, but it was as a part of the Roman Empire that the town really got its days of glory. From this period (about 1500-2000 years ago) originate the great buildings, that can now be seen. In AD 749, a major earthquake destroyed much of Jerash and its surroundings, and the city was first rediscovered and excavated within the last hundred years.

Det ser flot ud. Og det gør det lidt lettere at forestille hvor magtfuldt det romerske rige har været. Jeg har været i Ephesus og set noget lignende.
