The marsh near Aventoft, October, 2014.

SORT SOL (Translated into English: Black Sun).  Very large numbers of migrational starlings gather in the marshlands in spring and autumn when they move between their winter grounds in southern Europe and their summer breeding grounds in Scandinavia.  Large flocks form huge formations in the sky just before they decide for a location to roost for the night.

A piece of ‘useless’ information – here, a large flock of starlings that make such a spectacle in the late evening sky are called ‘murmuration’.

I have really enjoyed your Sort Sol series. I’ve never had the pleasure of seeing this in person.

Stæren samler seg også her i Trøndelag men oppfører seg ikke som her på dine bilder!

Jeg har set mange billeder af sort sol – og det kan fremtræde meget forskelligt. Derfor vil jeg gerne se det flere gange🙂
