I’ve missed you …………………

February 19, 2014

Now six months has gone since I published my previous blog post…………….

When suddenly – and without explanation – leaving a blog in which I have published 394 posts during the last 3 ½ years, — there is obviously something else in life, that has required all my energy!…..

And it’s not because I spent all the time photographing! Only a few times my camera has been in use for the past six months.

And now you ask: What has happened to me, which has absorbed all the energy in my life?:

The summer of 2013 up to August 17 had been wonderful for me: While WordPress published my posts from the “Sculpture By The Sea 2013 ‘, – I enjoyed  two weeks of wonderful holiday – the first week in Greece with my son – the second in Malta with my girlfriend.

But when I came back home August 17 in the middle of the night – everything suddenly went wrong: When I opened the door to my house, I was greeted by a cloud of steam from a leaked heating pipe under the house. Everything in the house was wet, and the almost boiling water filled the entire basement and reached just below floor level. This disaster initiated a sequence of shocking and unpredictable events in my life: Rescue workers, insurers, loss adjusters, degradation workers, artisans, mold experts – an army of different people coming and going in and out and working in my house for days, weeks, — months.  Mold-fighting companies working inside my sealed house while it was cleaned of mold. Portable cabins were placed outside on the street as resettlement for us, as we could not live in the house for most of the the fall, while all this work was taking place. (Not to mention how much time I had to use to manage all of this!)

Not before December we were able to move back into the house. Finally now – two months after – in February -, most of the house is again in usable and habitable condition. And not before now I begin having a feeling of having a home again (although much still needs to be put in place and an endless list of things that MUST be done, is still waiting ….)

And now I feel, finally,  I have a little energy left over to begin doing something FUN again – such as photographing or playing with my photos and my blog again……

I sincerely hope that some of you – my good blog friends – are still out there????

Welcome back, Truels. I was wondering why you stopped posting. I’ve experienced a couple of floods. They were horrible, so much was lost, so much time and money spent, but not as bad as yours. I am glad that you can begin to take pleasure in life again.

Thank you so much! I loved this island – there was a real Greek atmosphere here in the small villages in the northern part of the island. Especially at night when the heat was scaled down, and the evening light warmed instead 🙂
