Here in Denmark this winter has arrived with short and dark days – and frost, snow and icecold winds….

So why not start dreaming of warmer and more pleasant places?

Let’s go to Africa!:

May I present a very special and beautiful tree: The baobab tree.

Baobab is definitely one of my favorite trees!

I was lucky to be two weeks in Tanzania this year, a fantastic country with an amazing nature and wildlife, and friendly people (despite the fact that we white people from the north for many years have not treated them properly and with respect)

Here is another baobab tree. A Masai shepherd stands with a few of his animals near the tree.

Baobab is known as the tree of life, it can be several thousand years old. It stores thousands of litres of water inside the trunk. And it is shedding the leaves during the dry season.

Watch more photos from Tanzania here on my blog  in the following weeks!

What an amazing tree. It sorta looks like it’s growing upside-down — roots in the air, trunk stuck in the ground.

    What a magical tree!!!

Magic – oh yes, that’s the right word here – I still remember from my childhood my aunt show pictures and tell about this tree. She travelled and worked for many years as a Doctor for Red Cross in Africa 🙂

A real one. Have seen ‘fake’ ones at Disney World for years. Amazing trees.

Ever since I was a child I have admired this magic tree (read my apply above to Mike!)…

    Baobab-trærne fasinert også meg!
    Flotte bilder, Truels!
    Ønsker deg en super fredda’!

Hav en god og kold weekend oppe i kulden, Hans. Hernede er næsten ligeså koldt – ca. -10 om natten.

Wow. I have never seen it. Thank You presenting it.

Another wonderful image from Africa and from this mighty, majestic tree, baobab. I have seen alleys of baobabs in Madagascar, quite impressive, one feels small and vulnerable. Did you have a chance to see its seed pods ? As big as an apple ! Thanks for those beautiful images, Truels.

Oh, I wish I had seen those seeds! And your words mighty and majestic are so true. I simply LOVE these trees. And I love your nice comments too 😉

Baobabs are the weirdest trees, aren’t they? Magnificent and majestic indeed.

Since my childhood I’ve had a special relation to this tree (look my reply to Mike above). And that without having seen one before I was 57 years old!
Maybe it is also because the name “Baobab” sounds funny for a Danish spaking person 😉

Giggle… it also sounds funny to an English-speaking person! 🙂
