End of Summer
Please click on photos for a much better view 🙂
Scott Thomas’ latest assignment, “End of Summer” was a challenge I just had to take up. Many of my photos here on the blog portray my impressions from the nature. Therefore the focus in this post is on the nature around me, which I could not live without and which gives me so much beauty and peace of mind – in all seasons – including the end of summer. ……..
The first photo above is from the coast of East Jutland at Rude Strand, not many km’s from my home. I visited a good friend and we had a nice, long walk along the beach a lovely late-summer evening…
My next photo is captured a little earlier that same evening. The sun is still shining, coloring the grass on the cliff above the beach with warm colors….
So even though the sea is now quite cool to swim in – on a warm day like this there is still heat both in the sun and in all autumn colors in nature.
This photo of a large agricultural property and the harvested fields is from Central Jutland near Billund Airport. I was here recently to send my oldest daughter and her boyfriend to Turkey to study at Bogazici University in Istanbul. The end of summer can also often be the beginning of new chapters in life 🙂 !
On the way home I spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying the nice Danish late summer weather .
I respect highly the farmer on the farm here – for letting this beautiful chestnut tree be standing in the middle of his field. I am afraid, that almost all other farmers would have cut down the tree to facilitate their work in the field.
Thanks to him for prioritizing aesthetics over cold hard cash! Now he – and we – can enjoy this beautiful solitary tree on stage here surrouded by the yellow harvested fields and the still green fence behind.
Equally beautiful was this field with the rolling green hills and the small lake. Here the lucky farmer, who owns this farm, is able to enjoy the sight of his cows in these picturesque environments. And I hope you enjoy the sight as much as I did too…..
Seeing this sight made me completely forget, that summer is near the end!
In the late afternoon, I reached Hærvejen. It is probably the oldest road in Denmark. It leads right through the middle of Jutland, i.e. in the watershed or drainage divide of the peninsula of Jutland, where people, horse carts and herds of cattle (or an army!: “Hær-vejen” means in English “Army-road”) thus in the old days could go all the way from Germany to North Jutland. And do this without having to cross the many streams, that flow here from the ridge of Jutland facing east or west to the seas around the peninsula.
More informations about Hærvejen – including a small map – here.
I followed Hærvejen a long stretch, where it was possible to drive a car. Actually, I’d rather walk along this old road. Nowadays it is again possible to follow this up through Jutland by foot, and parts of the road is only accessible for hikers.
I say goodbye to summer with this evening image from my last visit by Jutland’s West Coast at Vejers Strand. (More photos from this area here.)
Although the photo is taken on a summer evening – autumn and darker and more unstable periods are heralded in the clouds of the evening sky…………………
My very dear friend , I’m not in a good mood these days …. I wish I could be very far from everything even in another planet for all the autumn !

I do not think they have autumn in other planets – but I hope you will come and let me show you ours here in over here in Denmark some day!

Yesthey were, I took many photos here. But this is actually taken by my son, who often borrows my camera and captures completely different and often great photos with it! (That’s me to the left – and one of my daughters with her girlfriend beside me)

No, I can’t believe summer’s over now too, and even autumn has some positive aspects, I do not like what is following the autumn!

Yes, it struck me immediately, when I drove past this field, that this scene with cows is a classic and romantic Danish landscape!

What a fine combination of photos and text – evocative images and good stories. Now I have to go read more about Hærvejen. That’s exactly the sort of path I’d choose to walk, too.

I am sure, that I one day will get back to Hærvejen – and walk along this. So maybe more stories about this old road will follow here 🙂

Hi Truels,, it is a beautiful tribute to summer, and with a hint of sadness for the passing of the warm weather. However, your winters are very beautiful, so no doubt we wil be treated to some more wonderful images of the next season.
