End of Summer

Scott Thomas’ latest assignment, “End of Summer” was a challenge I just had to take up. Many of my photos here on the blog portray my impressions from the nature.  Therefore the focus in this post is on the nature around me, which I could not live without and which gives me so much beauty and peace of mind – in all seasons – including the end of summer. ……..

The first photo above is from the coast of East Jutland at Rude Strand, not many km’s from my home.  I visited a good friend and we had a nice, long walk along the beach a lovely late-summer evening…

My next photo is captured a little earlier that same evening. The sun is still shining, coloring the grass on the cliff above the beach with warm colors….

So even though the sea is now quite cool to swim in – on a warm day like this there is still heat both in the sun and in all autumn colors in nature.

This photo of a large agricultural property and the harvested fields is from Central Jutland near Billund Airport. I was here recently to send my oldest daughter and her boyfriend to Turkey to study at Bogazici University in Istanbul. The end of summer can also often be the beginning of new chapters in life 🙂 !

On the way home I spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying the nice Danish late summer weather .

I respect highly the farmer on the farm here – for letting this beautiful chestnut tree be standing in the middle of his field. I am afraid, that almost all other farmers would have cut down the tree to facilitate their work in the field.

Thanks to him for prioritizing aesthetics over cold hard cash! Now he – and we – can enjoy this beautiful solitary tree on stage here surrouded by the yellow harvested fields and the still green fence behind.

Equally beautiful was this field with the rolling green hills and the small lake. Here the lucky farmer, who owns this farm,  is able to enjoy the sight of his cows in these picturesque environments. And I hope you enjoy the sight as much as I did too…..

Seeing this sight made ​​me completely forget, that summer is near the end!

In the late afternoon, I reached Hærvejen. It is probably the oldest road in Denmark. It leads right through the middle of Jutland, i.e. in the watershed or drainage divide of the peninsula of Jutland, where people, horse carts and herds of cattle (or an army!: “Hær-vejen” means in English “Army-road”)  thus in the old days could go all the way from Germany to North Jutland. And do this without having to cross the many streams, that flow here from the ridge of Jutland facing east or west to the seas around the peninsula.

I followed Hærvejen a long stretch, where it was possible to drive a car. Actually, I’d rather walk along this old road. Nowadays it is again possible to follow this up through Jutland by foot, and parts of the road is only accessible for hikers.

Although the photo is taken on a summer evening – autumn and darker and more unstable periods are heralded in the clouds of the evening sky…………………
