Man At Sea

December 18, 2011

In my previous post I introduced you to a sculpture in Esbjerg. The title of the sculpture is “Man At Sea”.  It portrays four men, who are watching the view over the Wadden Sea outside Esbjerg. The sculptor behind the work is the Danish artist Sven Wiig Hansen.

The stunning 9 meter high sculpture was erected in 1994 on the occasion of Esbjerg Municipality’s 100 th anniversary.

The sculpture is very noticeable in the flat wetlands – and attracts many people – and can develop many thoughts started ….

They do look bigger than life, and the second shot portrays it well. 🙂

You’ve shown us the size and the affect these sculptures have on people. I like the last one with the shadows.

the middle one is my favourite. gives a sense of scale but adds a link between the sculpture looking out to sea and the seated man below.

These make me think of the Easter Island heads …..

Hm, yes, maybe the artist has been inspired from those sculptures from Easter Island.

I think they are wonderful sculptures – so strong. It’s interesting getting a sense of their size when compared to a person.

Although these sculptures are modern, their rigidity reminds me of the statues of ancient Egypt and especially the large ones of Easter Island.

I guess you are right, that the artsts are often inspired from each other. Like photographers 😉
