Ginkgo
This is my last autumn photos from the Botanical Garden in Aarhus. And this is the leaf from a Ginkgo (in Danish: “Tempeltræ” – translation: Temple-tree). This tree has one of the most beautiful and distinctive leaves – in my view.
Therefore, I took many photographs of these leaves (in the beginning of November). But I had to be very careful – a little touch was enough to make them fall dawn ….
Taking many photos is a nice job (especially with my new camera!) – but it can be difficult to choose the best one! And this time I need your help again to choose which of the three following is the best one?
If you read Carsten’s comment, I had to try his idea!
So here is an an additional fourth version:
Carsten inspired me to make version 4 of “Ginkgo”.
Journey Photographic Inspired me to this version 5!:
How do you like that 😉 ?
Reading Carsten’s last comment pushed me to do this sixth version:
I do love the ginkgo, the leaves change colours in the most magnificent way.

The ginkgo’s must be in green summer dress now in New Zealand 😉

Difficult question Truels.
The light on the leaf is similar in the first and last – and better than the middle. I prefer the background in the last with the blue light. For that reason I’d pick the last.
You might play a little more with the composition. What if you made a square crop and found an angle with either less or more symmetry?

Dear Carsten. If you look at my updated post now, you will see how much I appreciate your comments 😉 – THANK YOU!

I like your fourth image. 🙂
Very often the good image is hidden in the uncropped photo.

I think the last one is the best, cant really say why though…just a feeling!

Thank you, Mats. How do you like Carsten’s idea?!

I like the subject but for me, the images are a little dark. Each could use a boost in contrast to make the subject pop off the dark background. As for composition, I like the third best. The addition of the blue bokehs in the backgroud makes it the clear winner.

Thank you so much for your great comments. The third WAS the best I think!

Do not ask me which is best! I have that same issue with my photos! 🙂 I love this series of Ginko photos. It reminds me when i first discovered one of these trees, and I was amazed at those leaves. 🙂
Wait, I think if I have to chose, I like the last one best. It’s more in your face, and the bokeh behind it. It’s screaming “Look at me!” 🙂

It looks like many others think the same as you – even me! That’s the fine thing doing this: To get so much response and suddenly see something you had not seen 🙂

I do like the colour in the one in the middle best!

The color of the leaf in the second – that is real autumn color, that’s why I liked this one too.

That’s so difficult! I like each of them but for different reasons: I like the first one for the plain background; the second one for the yellow colour; and the third one for the bokeh, the shape of the leaf, and the more vertical composition!

Are you perhaps a mind reader?! Your comments are exactly the thoughts and arguments that I had! But what do you think about Carstens proposal – which became number 4?

Extraordinary nice work, especially on the first one. I vote for that one – the “dots” on the other ones can be a bit distracting. Maybe only “flisespikkerier” 🙂

Thank you for your comments, Rune. How do you like number 4?!

I guess it is a re-edit of No. 3 🙂
I’m fond of 1:1, and it this case the vlue dots were not so distracting, but gave an additional balance since you have cropped the leaf.

OK – thanks, Rune, I appreciate your comments!

I love the last one most of all! The second is interesting, but without seeing the plant in live, I cannot have idea from its “real” color.

The second leaf was just further on in the process of developing the yellow autumn colors, I think.

I have a ginkgo tree in my backyard and missed taking a picture of it this year. I have to say I like the second image best, I like the warm colors.

The second one is the best for me , how it enters your frame and the color is very delicate . Lovely soft green line is the sign of living there .
Happy green days for you and your family .

Oh yes, you’ve got a point about the warm colors of that image, they are nice in autumn – and now in the cold winter. I send you all my warmest thoughts and greetings to you and your family!

I’ve always liked the ginko leaf, ever since I was a kid and had to do a leaf collection.
I like the third one best.

Not later than yesterday I was admiring the fallen leaves of a gingko tree. Beautiful shaped leaves. I like the way you cropped the fourth photo but my favourite remains the second one for its soft texture and colour.

You are right about the colors in the second. The third has cold colors, but is still my favorite – How do you like Farnaz’s cropping of the third?!

I think the last, with a bit of a contrast boost. I like the rotated version, although I’d be interested to see what a rotated but uncropped version looked like.

I’m really happy for all those creative comments – and your comments here got me going again with a fifth version ….

I like all the shots Truels, I keep looking and trying to identify my favourite, but keep changing my mind!

Maybe your favorite now is the last version?!

Your fifth version has enhanced color saturation. I like that much. But I’m not sure on the symmetrical image now it is on display. The left side of the leaf doesn’t add anything to the image – in my opinion. But the light on the right side is very good.
Now we are talking details. Your image is fine. But maybe it coud be very fine?

Taking a look at the fifth version again – I must say that you are right. So why not give it a sixth version?!

I like the third one. It brings back such memories of those stinky trees! I remember they smell bad in the fall. I also know that they are used for a memory enhancement.

Stinky – and smelling bad in fall – hmmmm, interesting! I did not know that! Too late for testing it now, but next fall….!
