Competition

September 27, 2011

This is my contribution to Scott Thomas’ latest assignment, “Competition”.

On Sunday I took my new camera to the soccer game my son’s team should play. I think the tenacious way which both teams played and tried to win truly  illustrates the concept of  COMPETITION

The photos speak for themselves:

I bought my new DSLR camera, a Canon EOS 60D, last week, but I have not had much time to test it yet. But what I’ve seen so far looks promising! The above photos are cropped heavily, and despite this enlargement, they are still pretty sharp. Something my old Lumix could not cope at all.
So I’m already mighty happy with my new nice Canon-friend! ♥♥♥
And I’m sure it will not last long before several more test results show up here 🙂
(but I still want to show more summer photos and travel photos from earlier this year ….)

It’s a long time since I’ve made a collage, so I will finish with a competition-collage:

And once again: Thank you, Scott, for your perseverance, hard work and efforts in making these assignments: These challenges works greatly motivating and inspiring for me! They are pushing me towards new limits every time ….

I love your pics, Truels – AWESOME that you got a Canon DSLR! You are going to LOVE the quality of the pics. What I particularly appreciate with DSLRs is that they are really FAST, compared to normal digital cameras. Click the ‘on’ switch, and you can take a photo immediately, without waiting for it to ‘boot up’. Click the shutter-release button, and you’re ready to take the next photo immediately. And no waiting for the lens to zoooom in and out until it focuses properly.

I am SOOO happy for you, Truels. You are TOTALLy going to love your new camera! 😀

Oh Reggie – reading this I can feel, you know how I am feeling myself these days 😉 I am SO satisfied with my new Canon friend! And I have really not had much time to use yet. But I’m sure it will serve me for many years – so I guess I will enough have time to learn all its capabilities and advantages…….
And thank you SO much for your fantastic sweet and kind comment!!!!

What a wonderful idea to create a collage. Your action shots reveal how odd the human body looks in motion. I don’t think these poses register with our eyes in the same way they do with the camera.

You are right: When I looked at these photos, I was surprised how their faces were extremely expressive and marked by concentration and exertion!

The collage features a nice competitive set of players. You’ve captured the intensity of the sport in the faces of the competitors. I doubt you would have been able to do so with the Lumix, even in Sports mode.

I see a jump in the quality of your photos already. The larger sensor and better in-camera processing is going to give you that right out of the box. Reggie already mentioned the speed of starting and using a dSLR. No more shutter lag for you.

I would NEVER have captured these photos with my old camera. And I really feel that jump in quality of my photos! And — I’m not even really got started using my new Canon yet………

Congrats on your new camera – from a fellow Canon owner!! I hope you love it (I’m just a wee bit jealous of your 60D as I have a Rebel XS! 😉 ) Great expressions you captured here!

My son’s team is new, so they need some time and training to get the team work together. So they have lost most of their matches – including this one…..

You got great camera. I checked its technical data, they are great indeed. Congratulations!

One thing which is not so often spoken is camera lens. It is still most important part of any camera. It’s really funny how the ad men talk “with big mouth” about the large number of pixels, but they forget the importance of the lens. Well, I’m a real, old amateur, and I cannot talk about these things.

To photograph any action sport is not easy! I checked my photos from ice hockey in which my grandson is playing with Yours. When photographing inside and outside action photos, there is a big difference, which is light. Lack of light combined with rapid movements requires also something from the photographer.

Your photos are very admirable! I enjoy them.

Personally I myself am a fan of the Nikon.

Hello Matti – thanks for this very interesting and fine comment.I am very impressed by what this camera is capable of already. You are right about the lens. So I bought a EF-S 18-135mm IS, which i think is quite a good one for a start. Later I will for example buy a more light sensitive 50 mm lens for shooting in poor light.
