Sculpture By The Sea (2)

June 26, 2011

Read in my previous post about the exhibition “Sculpture By The Sea”.

Here is some more photos from this great exhibition in Århus these days:

Artist: Phil Price (New Zealand)

Title: Nucleus

Statement: “Nucleus, noun (plural nuclei or nucleuses). Central part of an atom, comprised of protons and neutrons, DNA is stored in the nucleus of a cell.”

The wind is moving the parts of the sculpture:

Artist: Claus Ørntoft (Denmark)

Title: Introverted Stranding, Version 2

(red granite)

Statement: “Dynamic inertia. Taut inertia. Stretched out between two points. It lies on the seashore. Pent up between life and death. Powers of chaos and the cosmos. The unconscious and conscious ”

Artist: Toshio Iezumi (Japan)

Title: M. 110401

Statement: “I make my works from two points of view – the contour of the piece and the optical reflection and depth. ”

Artist: Marianne Jørgensen (Denmark)

Title: SKY

Statement: “SKY plays with the double meaning of the word “Sky”: In Danish this means “Cloud”, in English the sky above. The Vikings brought the word to England, where it was reinterpreted. Written in the water that reflects the sky and the floating elements above – the two meanings are united ”

Artist: Chen Wen Ling (China)

Title: Red memory-shy boy

Note: The selection of works on this blog are my own, and I have quoted the artists’ statements from the exhibition catalogue, where I found that they could help illustrating the work.

Truels, These photos are awesome, I love the SKY in the water and the meaning behind the word. I like the moving sculpture with the wind and the clear blue piece. The red boy is a bit creepy for me. Just my first thoughts.

Thanks for your comments, the red boy was one of my favorites – and it was mainly because of just the color – this beautiful red was so striking and a nice contrast to the beautiful scenery around 😉

Fascinating endeavor. The red really pops in the images of the shy boy.

The weather is fine here these days – but the forecast for the coming days is colder temperatures and rain – so Roskilde might be a wet and not a dusty experience this year!

I love all of these. Awesome! When seeing ” Introverted Stranding”, I first thought that is it made from sand.

    Great post!

Det var litt av en samling! Uhyre interessant, og dine vinkler gjorde dem ikke mindre interessante.

    God Sommer!

The Nucleus statue is very interesting that it moves by the wind. I like the images of the shy boy also, great detail on his face.

I think the red color was working so well because it is such a fine contrast to the green forest and the water and sand.

More fascinating art ! The “Introverted Stranding” makes me a bit uneasy but I must admit it is a striking sculpture. The red “Nucleus” is simply enchanting, especially since it moves with the wind. I also love the blue mosaic and its optical reflections. Great exhibition and pictures. Thank you very much, truels.
