King Winter – early arrival 2010

This week has been cold and freezing – and it has been snowing more and more during the week.
Two days ago I walked east of Mårslet along Langballevej while snow was falling. Suddenly the snow stopped falling and a bright spot in the sky appeared among the threatening clouds:
Since then it has been snowing more and more. Today it was difficult to open the door for snow…. And this evening the snow must be more than ½ meter deep!
Everything is WHITE!
I can not remember so much snow ever before in Denmark in November!
Last winter was the coldest in Denmark for many years.
Is this an omen of an equally cold and harsh winter again this year?
It IS beautiful!
BUT: I thought that climate change was that it became WARMER?!

The light trying to get through the clouds gives a perfect touch to the two first images.

It snowed a lot when I took this photo, actually I did not expect a good picture out of the situation – but I think it was the blades of grass in the foreground that saved the capture….

Snow in Denmark and snow in the UP of Michigan. Can it be far behind for me in upstate NY? Looks like you made the best of it, Truels. Hoping you get a break soon though. If it stays through spring, you’ll need a vacation to a warmer climate!

The weather forecast is not giving any hope of change. So, yes – We’ll have to solve it with a vacation heading south 😉

What amazing winter shots, Truels! That does look cold though! 😉 I like the first: great composition. Also I love the third, the simplicity is great, it makes it very evocative.
Oh dear, climate change… I think in reality we’ve just completely mucked it up beyond being able to predict what it’ll do next! From what I’ve heard, global “warming” has disturbed the gulf stream so that it’s less powerful and doesn’t keep the temperatures up…

We have -10 degrees celcius here now. But: I checked the temperatures in Greenland yesterday afternoon: Positive celsius temperatures all along the west coast – between +4 and +7 degrees!!!
The climate change is very complex. Our government did not help solving things last year, now they try in Mexico… Hope they do it better. – I think that the problem is the human way of life nowadays in the so-called developed world.

Your photos are the essence of cold and snow, Truels. I love the shot with the grass in the foreground leading up the hill to the trees – so calm and peaceful! I have not gone outside today here in Breckenridge, CO. The windchill makes outdoor play unbearable. (I certainly wouldn’t be able to remove my gloves to take a picture! Stay cozy and warm.

Well, Sir, we have been thinking just in this way here for long time. Now we have had two weeks cold which we have had not since 100 years in November. You can never guess how much firewood I’ve been burned in our capacitive fireplace already in November!
Last winter was the coldest winter we ever had. The cold lasted three months.”I just wonder why some people want that we are not worth to earn warmer climate here because they want to stop climate change”. 🙂
