Summer photography – Danish West Coast

October 4, 2010

I visited the Western Coast of Denmark again this summer for some days.

And while summer is gone now here, I hope you also like to join me and look at some summer memories – and start dreaming a little of summer 2011……

This is a view along the sandy coastline of Western Jutland.

Last time I visited Vejers Strand here was in April this year.

Some days  in the summer here are warm and sunny.

But suddenly a thunderstorm might approach:

Some hours later the sun is shining again:

And it is time for a swim in the sea:

The next day it might be time for a walk in the landscape. Behind the dunes is a limited area for houses, camping-sites and shops. The rest of the land is for many km’s used for 2 purposes:

The Danish army have a large area used for their exercises. But most of the extensive areas are wild growing green hills, moor and pine forests. Here you can walk for hours in the lovely nature – clearing the mind and body – and only meeting deer, birds, grasshoppers, wild flowers (more about them in one of my next posts 🙂 )…

This days walk went to the dunes:

But the dunes here – and along all the Danish West Coast – hide some ugly human secrets….. That is what my daughter and son is looking at here (it is right in the middle of the picture).

And here is a little challenge – for my foreign readers! (I think most Danes know the answer 😉 ):

What do you think this ugly secret is!!??

In the nice summer evening many people take a walk along the beach – and watch the sunset……

More about The Danish West Coast later…..

Yep, summer is gone. A nice look back, Truels. I can only think this beach of the location of many battles over the centuries but not sure what I am looking at in the last photo besides a very nice sunset silhouette. 🙂

Beautiful series from ‘Vesterhavet’, which is my favourite sea for bathing. -A very long coast compared to Denmarks small size. I’ll not comment on the secret in the dunes….

Thanks for the comments! “Farfar” – a Dane (Carsten) 🙂 – knows the secret, I’m glad you did not tell about it! Battle? Not really… – but close….. Come on, foreigners 😉

Thanks for the comments – I think I’ll bring a little help about the ugly secret: It’s made – not in Germany – but by Germany……..

hello truels 🙂 I love your Summer memories on the West coast of Denmark. This beach looks so wild and beautiful ! I wonder are there many people there in Summer ? I would imagine so. This secret, ugly… would it be of the military sort ? There seem to be a kind of concrete block in the dune, but of course, being shortsighted I may be wrong 😉
    Your photos are beautiful, truels.

Hello again, Isa! The coastline along the West Coast of Jutland is several hundred km’s long, and only a little of it is near settlements and used by people – in good summerdays mostly. And the ugly thing og concrete – it’s a bunker – see: – And thanks for your nice comments 😉

Another beautiful sunset picture and much closer to your home. I’m glad I didn’t have to wait for the answer to the ugly secret. Now I will go to your bunker post! Thank you for sharing your beautiful land!
